What Do You Do with the Mad That You Feel?
"Everybody wishes they had good words to use when there's been a problem in childcare. This video and training materials will give teachers good ways to talk with children, to help children understand each other's feelings, and to feel better when they've been hurt because of angry feelings."
-- Dr. Alice Sterling Honig,
Infant/Child Development Specialist

Introduction

The What Do You Do with the Mad that You Feel? training workshop explores anger, where it comes from, and how young children can gradually learn the self-control necessary to manage their anger and channel it into productive activity. It also suggests ways to intervene when children act out or lose control.

What Do You Do with the Mad that You Feel? includes:

Facilitator's Guide - The Facilitator's Guide provides step-by-step instructions for presenting this three-hour workshop. The workshop format includes the use of video segments, large and small group discussions, lecture, and hands-on activities.

It is housed in a 3-ring binder for portability and ease of use during presentations. It includes an introduction for the trainer, background material on the subject, and handout masters.

Handout Masters
- Reproducible handout masters include all workshop activities and ideas and suggestions that can help providers when dealing with children’s angry behavior.

Video Components
- Video segments include clips of providers working with children who exhibit out-of-control or disruptive behavior. The videos are available on VHS cassette or DVD.

CD-ROM
 - The CD-ROM contains presentation slides for the training including video segments in sequence, and all workshop handouts in PDF file format.

Additional Background Materials - The workshop appendix contains useful background material related to working with children who exhibit challenging behavior.

Children's Booklist for participants - Booklist identifies children’s literature that providers can use to introduce angry feelings as a topic or help children understand how their actions may affect others.

Supplemental Materials - Many of our trainings have benefited by including various supplemental materials that extend what participants have learned in the workshops.
